You would have known Boston Dynamics, a world leader in mobile robots (that's why they have "Dynamics" in their name!). They create robots with advanced mobility, dexterity and intelligence. One of the most famous is the humanoid robot Atlas, whose hobby is parkour!
FUN FACT: Those guys kick their robots to test stability!
Recently in June, the Boston Dynamics debuted sales for Spot, the agile robot that climbs stairs and traverses rough terrain with ease.
FEATURES
MOBILITY
Spot's leg was designed to move fast (1.6 m/s). The system automatically adapts to keep the robot moving smoothly. It knows how to climb stairs and avoid wars. Spot can also "get up" when it falls most of the time
PERCEPTIVE
AUTONOMOUS
Spot's movements are remote-controlled by an operator. But Spot can automatically do some basic things. Spot also comes equipped with Autowalk, an easy-to-use tablet feature that allows users to record and replay autonomous missions.
MANIPULATION
Boston Dynamics also sells a Spot ARM. It is attached to the back of Spot and helps to manipulate surroundings like opening doors and cabinets.
APPLICATIONS
Spot is useful in a lot of industries but mostly need some modules to add at its back. I am listing a few applications. You can see others at Boston Dynamics Spot Application Page.
SITE DOCUMENTATION
With a 360° camera and site documentation software, you can capture data and enhance employee productivity in documenting and managing site progress.
GAUGE READING
With Spot CAM, Spot can read analogue gauges measuring pressure, flow, temperature, and more.
NOISE ANOMALY DETECTION
Spot with a microphone or Spot CAM detects operating noises like ticking, grinding, or whirring.
Spot has been a successful robot or the base model for the future 4 legged robots. The disadvantage of Spot is it cannot differentiate between the firm ground and loose dirt.
